A move by the Federal Government to stop the ongoing industrial action initiated by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suffered a setback.

The meeting between the government and ASUU, which was held in Abuja on Thursday, August 17, reportedly ended in a stalemate.
The two parties, however, made progress as the Federal government made new offers to the union, Vanguard reports.
The representatives of the government, Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige and the minister of education,Adamu Adamu, and ASUU resolved to reconvene within a week, to continue the negotiations.
ASUU commenced an indefinite strike on Monday, August 14, on the grounds that the Federal Government failed to honour an agreement made with the union in 2016.
